Expert session on “Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Commercialization”ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode-27 April 2022
In commemoration of 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence, ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode organized an expert session on “Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Commercialization” on 27 April 2022 (online mode). Dr. T. E. Sheeja, Principal Scientist and PI, NAIF Schemes, ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode welcomed the dignitaries and participants of the programme. Dr. C. K. Thankamani, Director-In-Charge, ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode delivered the presidential address in which activities of the Institute with respect to IPR like trademark, licensing plant varieties for commercial production, registration with PPV and FRA, DUS testing, patenting technologies and its commercialization were highlighted. The Guest of Honour, Dr. K. Srinivas, ADG, IP and TM, ICAR, New Delhi, briefly narrated the history of IPR in ICAR system including formulation of guidelines for collaborative and contractual research, registration of varieties with PPV and FRA as well as the impact of ICAR in the regime of IPR. During the technical session on IPR, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Majumdar, Manager (IPR), Start-Ups and Incubation Centre, NRDC, New Delhi delivered the lecture on “Intellectual Property Rights and Process of Technology Transfer”. The speaker emphasized on various topics like major technologies licensed and commercialized by NRDC, process of technology transfer at NRDC, types of intellectual property rights viz., patents, designs, trademarks, copyrights, geographic indications, plant varieties etc. delineated based on the criteria like type of work, main requirements for protection and duration. The programme which was attended by 38 participants was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. R. Bharathan, Chief Technical Officer, ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode.
